This week we got some news that made our jaws drop. We heard that opponents are working hard in Sacramento to undo our huge solar victory at the CPUC; a victory that we worked so hard alongside 350.org, CREDO Action, SEIA, Union of Concerned Scientists, and 60,000 Californians to win.
Opponents quietly amended AB 2514 – formerly positioned as a harmless bill to study the impacts of net metering – into a bill that would completely reverse our net metering win. The new proposal would explicitly order the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to use the cap calculation methodology preferred by the utilities – effectively halving the number of California homes, businesses, schools and other energy customers who could receive fair credit for going solar.
What this means is if AB 2514 goes through, half as many California homes, businesses, schools and public agencies would receive credit on their power bills when they go solar. Sneaky!
Take action now to stop AB 2514 and defend the net metering ground we fought so hard to gain.
What’s even sneakier is that the newly amended bill is scheduled for its first Committee hearing the day before the July 4th holiday – an attempt to vote on the bad language while press, legislators and citizens are already on vacation.
Nice try, but tricky tactics to thwart solar energy won’t fly. Not with Vote Solarians (that’s you) on watch!
Don’t let them undo our big win. Your legislator needs to hear from you now to get the honest picture: Californians want net metering as it stands- fair and accessible. Contact your legislator now and urge them to vote NO on AB 2514.
Once you’ve taken action, let the world know! Post it on your Facebook wall and tweet about it. We’ve even got posts and tweets ready for ya!

Many thanks to VoteSolar for once again being on top of these critical issues. Thank you, thank you!
Looks like you are getting the “Arizona” treatment in CA, where powerful forces are trying to hold solar back…sigh.
