CA Solar Sneakery Morphs Into Study… For Now…

net metering

Last week, the Vote Solar team got whiff of some Sacramento shadiness- that our opponents were attempting to amend AB 2514 from a bill to study the impacts of net metering, into a bill that would completely reverse our recent net metering win.

Well, we weren’t going to let that happen on our watch. And apparently you weren’t either. Within hours, thousands of petitions streamed into state senators email boxes, and hundreds of Tweets and Facebook posts surfaced, all with one simple message: Californians want net metering as it stands- fair and accessible. No sneaky amendments to AB 2514!

Our voices certainly helped. And we’re pleased to announce that the amendment that would have reversed the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) decision is gone… for now… On the day of the hearing (which was the day before the July 4th holiday!) the final Senate Utilities & Communications Committee vote was 7-2. The bill now moves to Appropriations.

We’re taking this news in stride. Opposition still views the bill as a vehicle for undermining California’s successful net metering program- the amendment could return to the bill as it makes its way through the legislature. But we’ll remain vigilant! And we know you will too.

While the study remains at large, we’re giving Vote Solar members a hearty pat on the back. In a tight turn-around, you mobilized your voices over email, Twitter, Facebook, and phone. That’s why we’re so excited to keep mobilizing with you in the future for even bigger battles.

Good work team- and stay tuned for future developments!

Any time the Investor Owned Utilities (IOU’s) get an opportunity to subvert solar they will. All their talk about supporting renewables is a big flat out fraud !
