We’ve been doing this for a long time, and we’ve never seen a season of legislative sessions with so much promise: so many ambitious clean energy bills, so much momentum.  It’s really exciting to be a part of.

This past month has been EPIC for solar progress, from sea to shining sea -- for affordable energy, healthier communities and good green jobs. Looking for reasons to be inspired about our nation’s clean energy transition? We got you. Check it out:

SC Bipartisan Energy Freedom bill

South Carolina is busy proving that if there’s one issue that truly unites us all, it’s solar power. Vote Solar and our coalition have worked tirelessly in South Carolina and last week, solar had a real moment in the sun:  House members approved the bipartisan Energy Freedom bill to preserve solar savings and jobs … by an amazing UNANIMOUS vote.

You read that right: lawmakers voted 110-0 to expand solar rights!

California Solar Rights

We’re seeing bipartisan leadership in California too. In the wake of devastating wildfires, Republican and Democratic lawmakers are united behind a vision of empowering customers with solar, storage and other local clean technologies to build a more reliable, resilient and safe power grid. Vote Solar joined firefighters, farmers, families and solar workers in Sacramento to help launch the new Solar Bill of Rights to build that brighter energy future.

New Mexico: Community Solar Act

Right: Art Terrazas, Vote Solar’s Interior West Director, with Community Solar Bill Sponsor Rep. Patricia Roybal Caballero

For families who rent and others who simply can’t go solar on their own rooftop, we are working hard to provide community solar options that expand solar access.

We joined veterans, tribal leaders, students, nature-lovers, parents and grandparents who all know that clean energy is New Mexico’s future. And lawmakers listened -- House leaders passed the Community Solar Act. It’s now up to the Senate to finish the job.

WATCH: New Mexicans fill the Capitol for an awesome day of action!

We are also working to support the Energy Transition Act, which would put the state on a path to 100% clean by 2045. It’s a session with historic opportunities.

PLUS - We’ve worked hard with local partners to introduce community solar legislation in Florida and Pennsylvania as well. Here’s to a solar economy that works for everyone!

Maryland: Clean Energy Jobs Act

Right: Vote Solar’s Mid-Atlantic Director Pari Kasotia, on the job

In Maryland, Vote Solar joined a huge coalition that brought over 100 Marylanders together to urge lawmakers to support the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which will raise the state's renewable goal to 50% by 2030 and boost the clean energy economy.

And we’re going even bigger in Illinois where we’ve joined coalition partners to support that state’s Clean Energy Jobs Act, which would put Illinois on an equitable path to 100% clean energy (!!!) This is the kind of bold action needed to ensure everyone in Illinois has the opportunity to benefit from a healthy, job-creating clean economy.

Power up Michigan

Right: Becky Stanfield, our Senior Midwest Director, bringing a sunny crowd to Lansing

Meanwhile in nearby Michigan, Vote Solar worked with partners to bring over 100 solar workers, faith leaders, civil rights leaders and climate advocates together in the state capitol. Together we called on lawmakers to power up Michigan with solar and reject an anti-solar rate hike from one of the state’s big utilities, DTE Energy. Our experts have done a great job filing testimony, and we’re looking for a decision soon - stay tuned.

New York: Million Solar Strong

And we’re not done yet! We also joined solar industry and environmental justice partners in New York, where Governor Cuomo has put the Empire State on a path to 100% clean energy. We met with lawmakers in Albany, urging them to work to achieve that ambitious vision through strong legislation that puts New York on track to power 1 million homes with solar, including 100,000 low-income households.
