When I first became alarmed about climate change at the University of Illinois in the mid-1980s, I immediately made a bee-line for a career advancing climate solutions. Twenty-five years later, it is clear to me that renewable energy is the best hope we have to secure a livable planet for the next generation, and that we have no time to waste in deploying it. I’m more motivated than ever because I now have a daughter whose future I need to secure, and I’m more hopeful than ever because of the amazing team I’ve found at Vote Solar.

Over the next five years, the energy decisions made by our state legislatures, Governors and regulators will determine the kind of future my daughter, her friends and their children will have. As part of the Vote Solar team working in the Midwest, I believe that the advocacy we do at Vote Solar is making a critical difference and enabling the progress we need to see. It could not be any more important or urgent.

That’s why we need your help today. Please make a tax-deductible year-end gift today today and help me fight for a livable planet for the next generation.

You will move the Midwest forward, state by state, with a particular focus on three states that each have new Governors who have pledged strong support for clean energy:

  • In Michigan, we are protecting rooftop solar customers from bad proposals that put solar out of reach for many customers, and are pushing to put solar power at the center of a clean energy economy.
  • In Illinois, we continue to implement the Future Energy Jobs Act, passed in 2016, while working with lawmakers to set a course to 100% carbon free power by 2030.
  • In Minnesota we work to ensure that all customers can access solar power, including low income customers and renters. We are also working with regulators and others to hold Xcel Energy, the state’s largest utility, to its promise to move to 100% clean energy by 2050.

It can be overwhelming and hard to know where to start when you tackle a big problem like climate change. But progress is possible. Please consider taking one important step today --make a year-end donation to build a bright, clean-energy powered future.
