Vote Solar Announces Sean Garren DeKrey as Next Executive Director, Building on 25 Years of Momentum
Leadership transition reflects Vote Solar’s strong foundation, clear strategy, and commitment to expanding affordable local solar nationwide
Vote Solar, a leading nonprofit organization advancing bold, state-based policy and regulatory solutions to make solar power more accessible, today announced that Sean Garren DeKrey will become the organization’s next Executive Director, succeeding Sachu Constantine, who will conclude his tenure at the end of 2026.
Garren DeKrey currently serves as the Chief Programs Officer at Vote Solar and brings more than a decade of experience with the organization, a proven track record of building strong partnerships and support across the clean energy industry, and deep institutional knowledge of the organization’s work. Prior to joining Vote Solar he was the Legislative Director at Fair Share, an economic fairness non-profit. He also ran the federal clean energy program as Clean Energy Advocate at Environment America.
“We’re in a catalytic moment in the energy transition, and Vote Solar is uniquely positioned to advance our clean energy future,” said Sean Garren DeKrey, incoming Executive Director of Vote Solar. “For 25 years, Vote Solar has built deep technical expertise, lasting relationships, and a track record of delivering meaningful policy wins for solar. I’m excited to build on that foundation with our exceptional team and partners and help bring the benefits of affordable local solar to more people and communities across the country.”
Vote Solar enters this leadership transition with a clear strategic vision, a strong leadership team, and an exceptionally talented staff. As the clean energy landscape continues to evolve, the organization remains focused on advancing policies that expand access to affordable local solar, strengthen the reliability of the electric grid, and ensure communities benefit from the growing clean energy economy.
“Vote Solar is stronger today because of the people and culture we’ve built together,” said Sachu Constantine, Vote Solar’s Executive Director. “One of the things I’m proudest of during my time here is our commitment to investing in people and creating opportunities for leadership to grow from within. Sean’s leadership is a powerful example of that commitment in action. I have tremendous confidence in Sean, and that’s ultimately what gives me confidence that now is the right time for this transition.”
Constantine has led Vote Solar through a particularly consequential period for the clean energy sector, including federal policy rollbacks and shifting political conditions. Throughout that period, Vote Solar has continued to advance meaningful state-level policy and regulatory progress and strengthen its focus on affordable solar as a critical part of the country’s energy future.
“We are deeply grateful to Sachu for his leadership, vision, and dedication to Vote Solar,” said Tarak Shah, Chair of Vote Solar’s Board of Directors. “He has helped position the organization for long-term success and built a strong foundation for the future. We are equally excited to welcome Sean into this role. His deep understanding of Vote Solar, longstanding relationships across the clean energy movement, and ability to build support for our work make him uniquely positioned to lead the organization forward.”
