Pennsylvania must join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative
Tens of thousands of Pennsylanians have voiced support for joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a program that caps carbon pollution from power plants and requires plants to pay for the pollution they emit.
It’s no wonder the program is so popular, with 7 in 10 Pennsylvania voters in support. By joining RGGI, we can cut carbon pollution by 25% and create 27,000 jobs for Pennsylvanians — a major step forward in the Commonwealth’s fight against climate change and a boost for our economy as we recover from the pandemic. It can also be a powerful tool in promoting energy equity and environmental justice for overburdened Pennsylvania communities.
Communities of color and low-income communities face disproportionate health harm from environmental pollution. If implemented strategically, RGGI can help families reduce their energy bills, correct harmful environmental impacts, and make the clean energy workforce work for frontline communities.
We’re rallying Pennsylvanians to contact their legislators. If you live in Pennsylvania, urge your representatives to support your state’s entry into RGGI.
