Solar For All is Under Attack, Here’s How We’re Fighting Back
At a time when families are facing rising electricity bills, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is moving to dismantle Solar for All—a landmark program designed to make clean energy more affordable and accessible for communities across the country.
This multi-million-dollar investment is the first of its kind to specifically target low-income, rural, and disadvantaged communities. By lowering energy bills by an estimated $400 per year for participating households, Solar for All would bring meaningful relief to families who need it most.
That’s why Vote Solar, along with partner organizations, has sent letters to Attorneys General in 21 states urging them to stand up against the EPA’s proposal and defend this vital program.
Why Solar for All Matters
Solar for All is more than a clean energy investment—it’s a commitment to equity. It’s about ensuring that every household, regardless of income or ZIP code, can access the cost savings and environmental benefits of solar power. It’s about building local clean energy solutions that strengthen communities and reduce dependence on volatile fossil fuels.
Eliminating this program would be a direct attack on both energy affordability and the clean energy transition. It would also undermine the rigorous, competitive process that states went through to secure this funding.
The Call to Action for Attorneys General
The letters call on Attorneys General to use every legal and political tool at their disposal to push back on the EPA’s attempt to dissolve Solar for All. The states contacted include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
By defending Solar for All, these Attorneys General can help protect a program that will:
- Lower household electricity costs
- Expand access to clean, renewable energy
- Deliver local economic and health benefits
- Support a just and equitable transition to a clean energy future
