Nevada Senate recognizes the will of the people with 50% renewable energy bill

Nevada State Senators unanimously passed Senate Bill 358 to double the state’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) to 50% by 2030 and require 100% carbon-free emissions by 2050. The bill follows overwhelming support from state voters for higher renewable targets, who last year passed Question 6, a ballot initiative to reach 50% renewable energy by 2030. With the urgency of a quick renewable energy transition recognized by voters and lawmakers alike, SB 358 supersedes the need to pass the ballot initiative a second time in 2020.

“Last year, Nevada voters turned out in droves to raise the bar on clean energy in the state. We thank the Nevada Legislature for recognizing the will of the people and the urgency of a clean energy transition and putting Nevada on the path to 50% renewable energy by 2030. This bold but achievable clean energy commitment will support good jobs, healthier communities, and a brighter energy future for our children and future generations. It’s exactly the kind of leadership Nevada needs.
