Joseph Hernandez works in New Mexico as the Indigenous Energy Organizer for Naeva, a non-profit organization working in New Mexico to organize Tribal communities for an equitable and Just Transition to clean energy. Joseph has been working on advocating for renewable energy in the Navajo Nation since July 2019. He currently serves as the Energy Transition Act Commissioner for New Mexico Indian Affairs Department. Served on the New Mexico Climate Change Taskforce Technical Advisory member. Served on the Tribal Community Solar TaskForce. He was awarded the National 2021 Vote Solar Dr. Espanola Jackson Solar Justice Award. Currently, he volunteers as the Vice-Chair of the Navajo Nation Head Start Policy Committee, the governing body for 85 Head Start Centers on the Navajo Nation. He has also served as President for Gadii’ahi-To’koi Chapter Community Land Use Planning Committee.
