Senior Director, Midwest

Vote Solar is seeking to fill a senior leadership role on our staff. The Senior Director, Midwest role will set strategy and manage staff in the Midwest, and will be point on the following  activities:

  • Work with Midwestern staff to develop Vote Solar’s legislative and regulatory strategy for the Midwest. This will involve developing a deep understanding of solar policy needs and opportunities in target states across our five program areas of rooftop solar, community solar, utility-scale solar, grid modernization, and access & equity.

  • Help develop policy positions on national solar policy issues; become an expert on complex solar policy issues. 

  • Act as liaison to funders in the Midwest.

  • Act as an ambassador for the organization at key events across the Midwest.

This position will ideally be based in Chicago but other Midwestern states will be considered. As this position will require some regional travel, proximity to transportation hubs is important. Director, Northeast

Vote Solar is seeking to fill a key role on our campaign’s team. The Northeast Director will develop and direct legislative and other public-facing campaigns in the Northeast, and will be point on the following activities:

  • Develop Vote Solar’s legislative & public-facing campaign strategy for key states within the region. This will involve developing an understanding of solar policy needs and opportunities in target states across our five program areas of rooftop solar, community solar, utility-scale solar, grid modernization, and access & equity.
  • Strategically plan and execute comprehensive regulatory and legislative campaigns to advance solar policy, including hiring lobbyists and tracking budgets.

Regulatory Manager, MidAtlantic 

Vote Solar seeks a candidate committed to helping advance sustainable, equitable solutions to the challenges facing solar expansion in the electricity market. This position will report to the Northeast Regulatory Director and requires both strategic thinking in advocating for technical solutions before state regulatory bodies, and collaborative coalition building and management in getting those solutions implemented.

We are looking for a candidate that can support our mission in the following areas:

  • Support intervention in utility general rate cases and other regulatory proceedings to develop solar-friendly policies and tariffs for distributed solar. 
  • Support Vote Solar interventions in Integrated Resource Planning proceedings, Grid Modernization Proceedings and similar planning proceedings that push utilities towards decarbonized clean energy portfolios as alternatives to fossil gas electricity generation and grid services, with technical support from the Vote Solar Grid Modernization and Decarbonization Program.
  • Facilitate and collaborate with coalitions of stakeholders – such as frontline communities, environmental justice advocates, consumer advocates, energy efficiency and electrification proponents, energy storage providers, electric vehicle advocates – to develop and pursue shared strategies.

This position will report to the Northeast Regulatory Director based in Boston, but this position will ideally be located between Washington D.C. and New York. This includes coordinating expert testimony, and framing discovery for utility and other witnesses, —all in pursuit of regulatory outcomes that provide fair compensation for distributed solar and technologies that help grow solar markets.
  • Support Vote Solar interventions in Integrated Resource Planning proceedings, Grid Modernization Proceedings and similar planning proceedings that push utilities towards decarbonized clean energy portfolios as alternatives to fossil gas electricity generation and grid services, with technical support from the Vote Solar Grid Modernization and Decarbonization Program.  This includes advocacy for wholesale and distributed generation, demand response, energy storage, flexible load and electrification.

This position will report to the Midwest Regulatory Director based in Chicago (consideration for other transportation hubs in the midwest).
