Bill Moving Forward in California Offers an Affordable and Accessible Path to Solar

SB 868, a plug-in solar bill to help expand access to solar and energy bill savings across the state, has passed the assembly today. The landmark legislation eliminates barriers to plug-in solar, making it easier for more households— even those without rooftop access— to adopt affordable solar systems and reduce their energy bills.

Vote Solar’s Executive Director, Sachu Constantine issued the following statement:

“As we approach what is expected to be one of the hottest summers on record, families are looking for affordable ways to lower their energy bills. Plug-in solar offers everybody, including renters and those without a suitable rooftop, the opportunity to benefit from solar energy and lower their energy bills. We are encouraged to see California take important steps toward building a fairer, more affordable energy system for all.”

Vote Solar’s West Regulatory Director, Claudine Custodio issued the following statement:

“Plug-in solar will expand access to clean energy and help lower electricity costs for households and communities that have historically been unable to afford and install these systems . Expanding access to solar means cleaner air, stronger local economies, and more affordable energy bills— for everyone. California is on a path to 100% renewable energy and local distributed solar is part of that solution. We will continue advocating for solutions that create a cleaner, more affordable energy system that works for all Californians.”
