Marking Earth Day, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak today signed Senate Bill 358, which puts the Silver State on a path to getting 50 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030 and 100 percent from carbon-free sources by 2050. SB 358, which was sponsored by State Senator Chris Brooks and passed the legislature unanimously, makes Nevada the fifth U.S. state in addition to Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico to legislatively set a 100 percent clean electricity goal.

Following is a statement from Jessica Scott, Interior West Senior Director with the Vote Solar Action Fund:

“Nevada’s bold renewable energy commitment is a big deal for communities across the Silver State. It means a future where no family will be forced to breathe toxic pollution from power plants in their neighborhood. And it means that, instead of spending millions of dollars every year buying out-of-state fossil fuels, Nevada will be investing in local sources like wind and solar that support jobs right here at home.

This is exactly the kind of clean energy leadership that our communities, our economy and our climate urgently need. We thank Governor Sisolak, Senator Brooks, the state leaders who voted for SB 358, and the many Nevadans who voiced their support, all of whom are helping show the rest of the country that 100 percent clean power is 100 percent possible.”
