New Leadership Creates Opportunity to Advance Local Solar in California

Xavier Becerra has been elected as California’s next Governor, creating an opportunity to build on the state’s clean energy progress while addressing rising energy costs. Governor-elect Becerra has emphasized the importance of energy affordability and demonstrated support for solar energy solutions, including expanding access to community solar and making better use of existing solar energy. As the state works to meet its growing energy needs and transition towards a 100% clean energy economy, Vote Solar looks forward to working with the incoming administration to advance policies that make energy more affordable, expand access to clean energy, and ensure that communities up and down the state benefit from the clean energy transition.

Vote Solar’s Executive Director, Sachu Constantine, issued the following statement:

“At a time when Californians are facing rising energy bills and adapting to climate impacts, we look forward to working with Governor-elect Becerra and his administration to advance policies that put affordability, energy choice, and equitable access to clean energy at the forefront.

”Governor-elect Becerra’s vision for California’s energy future recognizes that the state’s abundant sunshine can mean greater savings for households and communities. By encouraging Californians to use more electricity during peak solar hours, when clean solar power is plentiful, the state can make better use of existing energy infrastructure, help households save on energy costs, and encourage electrification. We look forward to working with the administration to bring the Power Hour concept to life, turning California’s abundant solar energy into tangible savings for households across the state. We also appreciate Governor-elect Becerra’s support for community solar and the opportunity to advance policies that lower costs, create stronger communities, and generate dependable local power.

”We are excited by the work ahead to make California’s energy system more affordable, reliable, and equitable, and to push for future-facing solutions that ensure all Californians benefit from the clean energy transition.”
