Lake Worth city commissioners have put a freeze on solar in their Florida community - and we’re working with local partners and residents to ensure that this solar ban does not stand. You can read the letter that we sent to Lake Worth city officials about their misguided anti-solar plan here.
City commissioners, who manage the local municipally-owned utility, have imposed a four-month moratorium on solar interconnections, banning new solar installations on private property. They decided to impose this unfair and unnecessary ban after they realized the city was negligent in the way it approved solar installations. Now commissioners want to penalize future solar customers for their own mistake.
We know that rooftop solar lowers electricity bills, reduces harmful pollution for our children and seniors, and builds a stronger, more resilient energy system for all of us. That’s why Lake Worth families, businesses and others should be able to harness Florida’s plentiful sunshine to meet their own power needs without the city standing in the way.
Lake Worth city officials have the opportunity to right this wrong and keep solar shining for residents of their community by ending the moratorium. We're ready to work with them to keep the way clear for local families to go solar on their own property if they so choose.
