Vote Solar Statement on Gov. Baker’s SOTC Commitment of Net Zero Carbon Emissions in Massachusetts by 2050

“Governor Baker’s commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will set Massachusetts back on a long term path to climate leadership. We hope that he will follow that up with new policies to immediately accelerate the growth of clean, local solar power.

The Governor’s administration is currently weighing an expansion of the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program as well as improvements to expand access to solar in low-income and environmental justice communities. Moving forward with those actions is critical to the success of thousands working in our solar industry and thousands of families and businesses that could be saving on their energy bills with solar.

One of the most effective and easiest steps the Commonwealth can take to combat the climate crisis is to expand SMART by 3,200 megawatts to keep solar on track to meet our renewable energy target and improve the low-income and environmental justice portions of the program.”
