Vote Solar’s Statement on the Federal Funding Freeze

The White House issued a sweeping freeze on federal funding for critical programs, halting investments that millions of Americans rely on for basic needs like housing, disaster relief, and clean water. This unprecedented decision creates uncertainty and threatens to deepen the challenges faced by frontline communities—those most impacted by systemic inequities and the growing climate crisis.

In response, Vote Solar’s Executive Director, Sachu Constantine, released the following statement:

“President Trump’s funding freeze is an extraordinary act of negligence with devastating implications on the health, safety and livelihoods of millions of Americans. The impacts will be felt acutely by those already facing rising energy bills, worsening air quality, and the devastating impacts of climate disasters.

“These decisions strike at the heart of our shared expectations of social justice, equity, environmental health, and community well-being. The Trump administration is jeopardizing funding for everything, from disaster relief to rebuild communities, to home heating assistance and improvements to our energy system that prevent widespread blackouts. These are programs that empower families with affordable energy solutions, reduce harmful emissions, and ensure communities can weather the escalating impacts of climate change.

“This unprecedented overreach undermines the very systems designed to help us move forward. Nonprofits and service providers across the country, and our partners in the clean energy and climate justice space, are scrambling to find answers as vital programs risk being disrupted or shut down. We call on this administration to immediately lift this freeze and work toward solutions that uplift—not abandon—the people and communities who rely on these programs.”
