Vote Solar Applauds Duke Energy Florida’s New Community Solar Program’s Focus on Low-Income Customers

Duke Energy Florida filed a proposed new Clean Energy Connection (CEC) Program with the Florida Public Service Commission that will increase access to solar energy for Florida residents.

The current health and economic crisis is exacerbating the financial stresses of Florida’s hardworking families. Duke’s new solar program will help alleviate the undue burden of electric bills on Florida’s low-income residents with guaranteed savings and dedicated capacity.

Community solar programs allow anyone with an electric bill to benefit from solar savings similar to rooftop solar owners. Duke’s community solar proposal stands out because the reserved capacity for low-income residents is proportional to the number of eligible families. This is a critical step toward energy equity in Florida.
