New York Continues to Lead in Low-Income Solar Progress Yesterday, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced a new $3.6 million program to support development of solar projects by low-income communities. This latest program represents just the latest milestone in a history of solar success for the state.

Solar is working for the Empire State, delivering jobs, energy savings and healthier communities. Under the state’s innovative NY-Sun program, solar grew by 575% in just four years. This growth is fueled by the 611 solar companies and 8,250 solar workers across the state. In the past year, new programs like the Clean Energy Standard and Community Distributed Generation have set New York on an even more aggressive path to 50% clean energy by 2030 and 100% access to solar for all New Yorkers.

This new program from NYSERDA will enable more New Yorkers to participate in that great solar success story. NYSERDA will be providing grants and technical assistance to community groups and developers focused on delivering solar in low-income communities. As communities and the solar industry come together to bring solar access to those that have not had it before, this support will be critical.

Throughout his time in Albany, Governor Cuomo, along with NYSERDA and the Public Service Commission, have made equal access to solar a priority and sped the transition to a healthier, more resilient clean energy system. We are really looking forward to continuing to work with the Administration on this important work and seeing what comes next.
